We always love a great field trip. This semester we got to experience a dairy farm! The kids learned all about how we get milk, cream, and how the stores get it. They even got to feed the baby calves and enjoy a nice serving a fresh milk when it was all over. :)
She is showing them how the flushing system works in the barn. That sends a rush of water (that's recycled and clean) through the barn to keep the floor clean for the cows.
Our homeschool friends!
She's showing us how they attach the machine to the udders to get the milk. Then she went over the process of sanitizing everything from the machines the udders when they are all done. Clean milk is good milk. ;)
This is where they hold the milk! That machine turns on every once in a while to mix the milk and cream. They have their own little store for fresh milk and the rest they put on the dairy truck that comes to pick it up for the stores. From there they process the milk and we learned they take a LOT of the good nutrients out. Did you know people could live ALONE on fresh milk!? That's how healthy it is for you!
