Pioneer Days!

A couple of weeks ago, we ended our pioneer studies with a field trip to the Pioneer Museum in Ft. Worth. Alongside us came some of our homeschool group and friends. It was very neat for Aidan and the kids (and myself) to get to see and experience the life of our early pioneers. It was a great way to end our study!

Learning how the pioneers made candles!

About to go inside the mill and learn about grinding up wheat and corn, etc.

The Blacksmith was a favorite (especially for the boys) as they got to watch him light the fire, heat the rod, and shape it into a hook for hanging pots over the fire.

 Inside their small cabins...

Learning from a pioneer!

Watching a fun puppet show!

 How they used to "drill"

The entrance to the old schoolhouse! Boys and girls line up on each side.

The teacher went over the rules!

The favorite part was the end where they got to experience hands-on activities such as grinding wheat or coffee...
 Play in the kitchen...
 Pump water...
 Play with their puppets...
 Dress up!

Such a fun day at the Log Cabins!

Thank you Nana for joining us and getting to experience pioneer days with us!
