LLELA

Last week was busy with fun-filled learning classes. One of the classes was put on by UNT (University of North Texas) and LLELA (Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area). They provide opportunities in the spring and fall for home-schooled children four times during a semester. Since last semester was filled I made sure I was put on the list for early sign-up. Last week was all about learning the pond habitat. The girls were sick so it was just me and Aidan and we had a blast! It was very hands-on and outdoors the entire time so you can imagine how perfect it was this time of year. And, we were fortunate to have our friends from our small group with us to learn alongside us.

Here is a picture of the group listening to their leader.

Showing them a jug of pond water
They each got their own sharing tray with a partner to investigate pond habitat. Let's just say it was a VERY healthy pond. They found a small fish, snails, water bugs, and they lucked out to find the only water scorpion! Fun fact: It looks like a stick and breathes through it's back tail above water. All in their little tray!!

It sure looks dirty but to our eyes it's healthy pretty pond water.

More learning about what could be found in a pond habitat.
Then they took a nature walk to find deer tracks, armadillo tracks, and more.

When we got to the pond they got to see all the ducks fly off in a group! It was pretty neat to see!

 More learning is always great!

 Closing time.

It was a beautiful day and we were SO glad our city offers opportunities that are unique. We can't wait for the next three!
