Letter D and more learning!

This year I've decided it would be neat to read through the Caldecott Medal winner list from the past 75 years. So Aidan and I have set a goal! :)

Last week we also enjoyed pulling out the clay to make stories and art with our reading time.

Abigail learned about the letter D last week! I always have a bucket with things around the house that start with the letter of the week. Aidan loved it when we did it and Abigail does too. It's been fun to watch them hear the sound of each word and be able to touch it and play with these things. Letters are important and part of our everyday world. :)
I always start her out with a coloring page and practice to identify and write the letter.

We then do a craft together. D for Dalmatian Dog

We also worked on "sorting" and colors with our Do-a-dot markers.
She loved our daily puppet song. "Five Little Ducks" We acted out the story with our ducks.

Aidan wrote a thank you note to his friend in writing time.

Working on new vocabulary words in reading time...
Made his own team jersey for his reading project (Yes, he did try to make a silly face and his 1/2 way crossed eyed..goofy!)
 Spelling practice in sand...

Science was learning about the Moon and phases. With Oreos of course!!

 My hard workers!

Abigail worked on identifying lower case d and capital case D by feeding the correct Dog the right bones.

 Adelyn played Doctor!

Abigail also worked on sorting sizes with letter D. Small items that start with D go in the David bowl. The big D items go with Goliath. You can guess what Bible story was about right? ;)

 Aidan working on writing practice...

Even little sisters like to watch Aidan learn. :)

And to end our letter D week, we made homemade donuts! YUM!

Guilty!
 Getting ready to decorate!

 The best part!!

D was delicious and so much fun!

  1. How DELIGHTFUL to learn DIFFERENT letters each week! The DONUTS look DELICIOUS! I wish I had been there to DIG into the DECORATIONS before putting them on the DONUTS! I love you and DREAM of the next DAY we get to see you!
    Love you, DEARLY!
