This past Saturday, we joined Josh at First Baptist Denton where he is helping intern under the Associate Pastor over Administration. He has learned so much and will continue to learn from Jim in the future. It's been a great experience for Josh and we are so thankful for all of the helpful resources Jim has been passing on and will continue to give after Josh graduates. Although, Jim's main job is Administrative he also leads the special needs ministry. He has a teenage son with extreme autism and has known this area in the church needs help. So while each Sunday morning there is a sunday school class for them, they also have a church service once a month for anyone with special needs and their families. Normally there are about five families and Jim leads music (they pick an instrument to play like clappers or tamborines) and Jim gives a short bible lesson. Josh has been before but this time we were invited and they happened to have fishing (since the lesson was about "Fishing for Men."
These people catch catfish and will travel to do this ministry at churches. They then donate the fish or release them back into a pond locally. After we enjoyed catching and putting back in the tank, the family minister volunteered to take them and release them into his pond. Very neat time with each other and meeting new people.
For an honest heart, I know so many people and adults are uncomfortable around special need people and Josh and I truly believe it's because they aren't around them often or know how to act. I'm so glad our children will have the opportunity to know that God made everyone and He made them just perfect, regardless how different we all are.
