Olympian? :)

Okay folks so now that we're over the sickness in our home, we have been back to being the way awesome Jones, party of 5! No more laying around, lazy days, breathing treatments, antibiotics, mom running out of lysol, changing toothbrushes every week, etc.

So with that being said I take you back to our experience of karate...remember a while back when I posted that we were taking Aidan to karate for a trial run? Well that quickly came to a halt when we realized it was going to be $395 up front and $100 per month for 2 lessons a week. Yikes! Definite a no go on our tight small budget. :/ So...back to square one of figuring out something cheaper for our little 5 year old to participate in. We did sign Aidan up for swim lessons at the beginning of the summer and he had a blast but we definitely needed a break from the Monday-Thursday everyday for 30 minutes, 2 weeks in a row thing. Add pulling out the double stroller every day in the 100 degree heat and you can bet it seemed the weeks were a taaad longer that normal. ;) Anway, we are done with that (for now) and with a nice little break and some rest (and some Olympics) we came up with something else to try! Sadly Aidan's idea of soccer won't work this semester since our homeschool association is looking for a new directer this fall,  however we have high hopes for the Spring! So instead, we did a trial run with gymnastics! He has been watching the Olympics around here (of course!) and thought it was super cool. So after calling a couple of places we set up two trial days to check it out for free. We had one today and oh.my.gosh. this guy LOVED it. I don't even know how to describe how joyous this little guy was! I mean picture a little boy just trying to keep himself self-controlled and couldn't contain his joy at spontaneous moments and grin the biggest grin and squeeze his hands in a fist! Sweetness. They had the kids warm up by running around a mat and I must say he must have been the fastest (to find out later he "was running like a cheetah!" not because the coach told him but because his little mind creatively morphed him into one). There was no stopping him to be right beside her at each rotation, excitedly waiting his turn to swing off the "trapeze bar" and land in a pit of foamy blocks then make his way around a relay. Then seeing him jump down a 20 foot trampoline with different patterns, then try the balance beams, and last but not least swing from a rope into another HUGE pile of foamy blocks. The good thing is this place wasn't really set up like a "Little Gym" but had older kids doing rotations and the big equipment (like on the Olympics) so he had a great feel for goals in the future. Pretty sure the rings were his favorite. ;)

When you have a 5 year old singing "I've got Joy Joy Joy Joy down in my heart" the rest of the night, I'm pretty sure that this gymnastic thing has his little heart captivated. To be continued... :)
